As you start the book, it is important to keep your focus on your mind as much as possible, and less so on what is happening in your life situation. Of course you will be aware of what is happening in your life situation, but focus now on how your mind is reacting to that situation as it changes moment by moment. What is your emotional reaction? Notice what you want and don’t want. Also be aware of your thinking. Carefully observe all activities of your mind like an objective scientist; don’ judge what you observe, just watch and know truthfully what you observe.
As you gradually change your mind by doing the 7-step prayer, your mind will begin to react differently to changes in your life situation; you will begin to notice less painful emotions and more pleasant emotions as your mind reacts with more trust in God and more acceptance of God’s created world, despite it’s warts and flaws.
Remember, your happiness is not determined by your life situation but rather by how your mind reacts to your life situation. Our goal of divine union also achieves a mind that is always peaceful, loving and joyful, no matter what is happening in your life situation.
